Shanna J. Dominguez, MEd, LPC, NCC
Director of Clinical Services
Shanna Dominguez specializes in the field of cognitive and behavioral psychology and the research of addiction and trauma. She is a National Certified Licensed Professional Counselor, recognized by the The National Board of Certified Counselors (NCC) who have met national standards set by the counseling profession, have completed specific educational and training requirements and demonstrate an ongoing professional commitment to the field of counseling.
Shanna completed her bachelor's degree in psychology from Fisk University and her master's degree in counseling psychology from the University of Houston. Subsequently, she is in the dissertation phase of her research for her PhD in industrial organizational psychology.
Throughout her career she has focused on trauma, addictive disorders, and the treatment of co-occuring mental health disorders. Shanna has served working as an adult and adolescent inpatient therapist at psychiatric hospitals, Cypress Creek Hospital, Sun Behavioral Health Houston, and Rock Prairie Behavioral Health in College Station, Texas, with a focus on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression. Shanna completed her practicum training at the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran Affairs Hospital of Houston with a focus on prisoners of war inpatient therapy, WWII Veterans and trauma group therapy, substance abuse, depression, and post traumatic stress disorder.
The treatment offered at Dominguez Psychotherapy and Counseling Center and the patient’s experience are overseen by her vast knowledge in her treatment research that has shown what is needed to sustain long-term recovery and her experience in leading and directing the treatment of co-morbid mental health disorders. Shanna is trained and certified in using multi-treatment modalities to include, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, existential therapy, and the Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
Shanna's approach to therapy is to take the knowledge we already hold, the many challenges we have faced, and obtain the tools we need to make the changes in our lives that we desire.
