CouplesTherapy

We are only as good in relationships as our role models were as we learned and matured. We intuitively know when something is not right in our relationships, even though we may not be able to explain it with words. Asking for help from a counseling professional is one way to process your relationship and make changes in a positive direction.

Here at Private Matters Mental Health Therapy we will use research based techniques to help you identify core issues in your relationship and set goals to achieve a healthy, balanced life with your partner, that includes not only setting healthy boundaries and building solid relationship systems that include love and admiration and good communication; but identifying your emotional needs and strategies to meet them.

If you are currently in a relationship, the general recommendation is to come to the first appointment together with your partner. This helps to hear both perspectives on the issue, get a sense of your relationship dynamic, and hopefully get you both on board for treatment. Typically, but not always, we will schedule personal sessions for each of you so that we can get a deeper understanding of your individual histories or feelings. After this thorough assessment, recommendations can be made about how to best proceed. Sometimes it is recommend to have couples therapy only. Other times, an individual treatment focus is suggested.
